Series of webinars on Population and Housing Censuses in Iraq
In response to the recommendations of the fifth webinar, ESCWA organized a session chaired by Mr. Ismail Lubbad, in which Dr. Amor Laaribi, a consultant in geospatial information, gave an assessment of the infrastructure of the geographic information systems (GIS), which would facilitate the adoption of such technology in planning for the 2020 round of Population and Housing Census (PHC) in Iraq. He identified the scope and the gaps of the existing geospatial infrastructure within the Statistical Office in Iraq. Dr. Laarabi also presented operational guidelines on how to use the geospatial information technologies at every stage of the census and identified the resources and capacities to assure their implementation and monitoring. The webinar was concluded with a discussion about the outcomes of the assessment and adoption of the points raised by the Iraqi Central Statistical Organization.
