This virtual national workshop is organized by the Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA), in collaboration with the Ministry of Social Affairs, Children and Family/ Department of Studies, Cooperation and Monitoring in the Islamic Republic of Mauritania, to build national capacities on the use of the Social Justice Policy-Gap Assessment Tool (PGAT) and its application on the national strategy for recovery from COVID-19 in the Islamic Republic of Mauritania.
The workshop is the first phase of technical support within the ESCWA TC program on social justice with the Islamic Republic of Mauritania, which aims to enhance the capacities of officials from the Ministry of Social Affairs, Children and Family in the field of analyzing the gaps related to social justice in social policies and assessing the extent to which policies are compatible with the principles of social justice.
The workshop targets central and regional directors involved in designing, implementing, and evaluating social policies.
The first phase of this program includes several steps:
- The Social Justice Team at ESCWA, in collaboration with the Ministry of Social Affairs, Children and Family, organizes an initial online workshop in September 2021 to introduce and train the ministry officials on the use of the social justice policy gap assessment tool and how to implement it.
- Identification of a small team to supervise the assessment process for the national strategy for recovery from COVID-19
- The Social Justice Team at ESCWA provides technical assistance and guidance to the supervisory team and to the assessment team until the completion of the assessment process and the development of a roadmap for implementing the agreed recommendations.
